DeVaughn's Take on Armstrong's French PR

MSNBC's Hardball': Sportswriters discuss issue. Lance sez it ain't so, and that's good enough for me. In related news, via Steve Rubel today, NBC's Brian Williams is blogging. This evening's news program will feature Lance Armstrong's latest in a continuing series of dust-ups with the French media du sport. Not sure if that's correct French. If it's not, well, then pardon my French. So what's with Armstrong's PR woes with our amis across the Atlantic that we love to hate, eh? Hey, that's Armstrong's sentiment, too. The "love-to-hate" thing. Some thoughts: First, I'm not convinced there's a PR-oblem here at all, vis-a-vis the general population. Who didn't see a whole lotta love showered upon Armstrong during the Tour? Second, even if one exists, an American having a PR problem with the French is redundant. Unless you're Jerry Lewis or Woody Allen. Is there anything towards which those people harbor goodwill? Still, I suspect that your everyday, baguette-toting, cycling-loving Jacques et Jeanne view Armstrong as the champion he is and take him at his word: that, non, he has never used performance enhancing drugs. Not so for certain quartiers of the nation's sports establishment. How can such a sour-grape nation produce such wonderful wine?
